CMC membership is unique

The CMC represents not only marine industry service providers, but also their customers: large industrial companies that need competitive marine systems and services in order to get goods and materiel to and from market. So the CMC community consists of a uniquely broad spectrum of marine industy stakeholders and, through this unique, inclusive membership base, provides respected advocacy for marine related issues with a national perspective. CMC also offers a bi-national perspective with a membership base that includes both Canadian and U.S. organizations, ... the only bi-national organization of its kind.

What are the benefits of CMC membership?

Because CMC represents all commercial marine industry stakeholders, CMC is regularly consulted by government on key marine policy and legislative developments. As a member of the CMC community, members have the opportunity to play an important part in organizing, networking and contributing to the development of industry policies, strategies and action on issues that affect all industry stakeholders.

CMC offers regular meetings of members with important government and regulatory officials, as well as influential legislators, media and opinion leaders. Through member communications services like the Marine Connections newsletter, Issues Update email blasts, periodic news releases as well as the hosting of regular meeting opportunities, CMC is an important source of important, newswothy Information on key issues affecting the marine industry.

CMC is also an industry leader in external communications and advocacy on the benefits of marine transportation. In partnership with a number of members, we have developed the ad campaign, Marine Delivers, which features prominently in industry magazines like Canadian Sailings, Maritime Magazine, 2020, Great Lakes Seaway Review, and regularly runs full page colour advertisements in government media like The Hill Times newspaper.

For most policymakers, government officials and politicians not previously exposed to the world of marine transportation, the industry and it's tremendous benefits can be very ‘out of sight, out of mind’. And that’s a shame because when it comes time for these people to comment or pass judgement – on ideas, policy, regulations, draft bills, existing statutes and future legislation – it is well worth the effort to ensure they know and understand how valuable marine transportation is to them and their country. With membership in the CMC, that effort is realized through professional industry activism and advocacy that benefits all industry stakeholders, and ultimately, the public at large through the increased use of safe, efficient and environmentally smart marine transportation.
